Sharjah Match Review
On Friday the Abu Dhabi Harlequins 2nd team travelled to Sharjah to participate in the annual 10’s tournament.
The tournament got off to bad start for Abu Dhabi. The team bus arrived over 30 minutes late at the Sharjah playing fields which resulted in Abu Dhabi forfeiting the 1st game (against Sharjah) because only 4 players were available at kickoff. A full squad of players were available for Abu Dhabi’s two remaining pool matches against the Arabian Potbellies and HMS Lancaster. Abu Dhabi were able to defeat both teams and progress into the Plate (Middle tier) semi-finals of the tournament.
Abu Dhabi were drawn to play HMS Lancaster in the Semi Final and were able comfortably defeat them for a second time 4 tries to zero. In the final Abu Dhabi faced the Dubai Flying Muppets (Toa Dubai Affiliated Entry). The first half was close game with Abu Dhabi going into half time leading One try to Nil. The second half started with Abu Dhabi scoring a second try extending the lead to two tries. The Flying Muppets quickly responded with a try of their own closing the gap. During the final few minutes both side had possession of the ball but in the dying seconds of the match Abu Dhabi through adventurous play were able to score a third try sealing the win and the Plate final.
During the tournament Abu Dhabi Score more than 10 tries and only conceded 1.
In the Cup Final Toa Dubai defeated the Dubai Dragons and in the Bowl Final the British School entry defeated the Dubai Hurricanes.
