Under 12s Season Review 2008-09

It has been an extremely rewarding season for the coaches. The commitment and enthusiasm displayed by all players has constantly provided competition for places which in turn has stimulated constant improvements in individual skills and more importantly teamwork, the concept of all parts of the team working together as a unit being stronger than a group of individuals. The standard of rugby being played has improved dramatically over the season and has reached an extremely high level at this time.

We have been very fortunate to have a very close knit squad who has worked tremendously hard in all aspects of the game of rugby. It has been particularly gratifying to see how well many players of different nationalities coming together from many different schools in the city have gelled into a unit and have clearly developed close friendships. This is after all one of the reasons that many of us have played and enjoyed rugby for so many years. This camaraderie will, I hope, be something that you can all enjoy throughout your lives.

In a similar vein, it has also been very pleasing to see in general a developing concept of sportsmanship. We all play rugby to enjoy, to experience the camaraderie as discussed above and to win. Unfortunately it is not always possible to win. Whether teams win or lose, the way in which players conduct themselves and show respect for their opposition who have tried equally hard to win is a measure of sportsmanship. As you all know I am not a great fan of losing, but I have been very proud of the way this team has dealt with both victory and defeat.

Fortunately we have experienced many more victories than defeats. In brief we have been Runners Up in both the Abu Dhabi and Dubai Exiles Festivals. We were Runners Up in the AGRFU League and are currently Bahrain Festival Champions. In addition we had a significant late season victory 19 -7 over an Abu Dhabi U.13’s team

Congratulations to you all on a great season; you are a committed and united squad. Thank you and good luck next year.
