ETIHAD AIRWAYS JUNIOR RUGBY FESTIVAL 2010
Etihad Airways will host the third edition of the Etihad Airways Junior Rugby Festival in Abu Dhabi this October, underlining its commitment to grass roots sport in the UAE.
The festival, which takes place at the new home of Abu Dhabi Harlequins – Zayed Sports City, consists of two key events – the Etihad Airways Harlequins Rugby Schools (19-22nd October 2010) and the Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Harlequins Junior Rugby Tournament (29-30th October 2010).

Through Etihad Airway’s sponsorship of London-based rugby club Harlequins, the participation of professional coaches and players has been secured, who will take part in the Etihad Harlequins Rugby Schools between 19-22 October 2010. More than 400 Emirati and International children from Abu Dhabi will receive introductory coaching sessions to develop their knowledge and skills of the game. Two age groups of school children will take part, 7 -10 year olds and 11 -14 year olds.

Following the Etihad Harlequins Rugby Schools, Etihad Airways will jointly host with Abu Dhabi Harlequins Rugby Club, the Middle East’s largest junior rugby tournament at the same location (Zayed Sports City) on 29th and 30th October. More than 1,600 children will take part in the two day knockout tournament, with children aged between 6 – 18 years old taking part. Teams have already confirmed their involvement from across the UAE, England, Russia, Iran, Kenya and many GCC countries.
The tournament is open to all clubs (local, regional and international) as well as overseas schools.
Competitions will run for the following age groups: U6, U7, U8, U9, U10, U11, U12, U14, U16, U18 boys and U18 girls touch rugby.
- Under 6,7,8 and 9’s will play on Friday 29th October 2010
- Under 18 girls will play on Saturday 30th October 2010
- All other teams will play on both days
- The tournament starts at 9.00 AM on both days
