ETIHAD AIRWAYS JUNIOR RUGBY FESTIVAL
Etihad Airways hosts the annual Etihad Airways Junior Rugby Festival in Abu Dhabi, underlining its commitment to grass roots sport in the UAE.
The festival consists of two key events – the Etihad Airways Harlequins Rugby Schools and the Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Harlequins Junior Rugby Tournament.
Through Etihad Airway’s sponsorship of London-based rugby club Harlequins, the professional coaches and players visit the Emirate to take part in the Etihad Harlequins Rugby Schools. More than 450 Emirati and International children from Abu Dhabi receive introductory coaching sessions to develop their knowledge and skills of the game. Two age groups of school children take part, 7 -10 year olds and 11 -14 year olds.
Following the Etihad Harlequins Rugby Schools, Etihad Airways jointly host, with Abu Dhabi Harlequins Rugby Club, the Middle East’s largest junior rugby tournament. Nearly 2000 children take part in the two day knockout tournament, with children aged between 6 – 18 years old taking part. Teams regularly involved include teams from across the UAE, the UK, Russia, Iran, Kenya and many GCC countries.
The tournament is open to all clubs (local, regional and international) as well as overseas schools.
Teams may enter in the following age groups:
