Rules

1. The Game

1 The Start/Restart
The game starts with a tap from the middle of the field at the beginning of each half and after each touchdown (the teams who scored the touchdown defends the subsequent tap). The defending team must be back 10m for the start of play, and after each touchdown.
2 A Team
Play is six (6) a side mixed with a minimum of one female on pitch per team at all times (if a side does not have a female player on the pitch they must play with five (5) players). During the finals, if you do not have a female on the field you play with four (4) players.
3 Turnover
Once a team in possession has been touched six times the ball is turned over to the other side.
4 Scoring
One (1) point is awarded for a try by a male player two (2) points are a warded for a try by a female player.
5 Game Length
A game is two 20 minute halves with a small break between the halves.
6 The Touch
A legal touch is where a defending player touches any part of their body on any part of the body, clothing or ball of the attacking player. After making a touch the player must claim the touch by raising hand & shouting ‘touch’.
When touched, player in possession must place ball on ground at exact point of the touch and commence the “Roll Ball” (see below).

2. Rollball

1 The Roll Ball
After being touched the player in possession must place ball on ground at exact point of touch, and roll ball between their legs.
2 Acting half
The person picking up the ball after the Roll Ball is called the Acting Half. If the Acting Half is touched while in possession of the ball, a turnover occurs. The Acting Half can cross the try line but not score.
3 Retreating
After touching the attacking player with the ball, all defending team players must retreat 5m.
4 Turnover
The ball is handed over to the other team when:
a) the attacking team has been touched six times;
b) the ball is dropped on the ground or kicked;
c) the ball is dropped or knocked forwards, in a touch; and
d) when a player with the ball runs over the sideline.
e) when the Acting Half is touched while in possession of the ball.
Turnover Sequence: After a turnover play will be restarted by a Roll Ball.

3. Penalty

When someone is penalized their team must retreat 10m.
1 Offside
If the defending players do not retreat the required distance they are offside. If you leave the offside line before the Acting Half has touched the ball you are offside. The Acting Half is given three seconds to play the ball.
2 Off the mark
a player commences the Rollball from a place other than where they were touched.
3 Strong Touch
If a touch is considered too strong, rough or dangerous.
4 Forward Pass
When the ball is passed in forward of the player who passed the ball.
5 Touch and Pass
When the person who is touched then passes the ball.
6 Voluntary Roll Ball or “no touch”
When the player is not touched and rolls the ball between their legs.
7 More than a meter
The ball is rolled more than one meter in a Roll Ball.
8 Shepherd or Obstruction
A payer from the side in possession obstructing a touch from the defending side.
9 Deviation
When a defender changes their direction before retreating back 5m.
10 Minor offences
Bickering with refs, shouldering, leg trips etc
The referee will initiate an automatic substitute between the offending player and another team player in the sub box.
11 Repeated/Serious Offences
For repeated or serious offences the referee can move that player to the sin bin (that player will stand behind the opposition’s deadball line), for a period of time (at the referees discretion) without replacement.
12 Foul Play
Foul Play is determined in the sole discretion of the referee and will result in the offending player being sent from the field without replacement.

Penalty Sequence: Ball is place on the ground, let go of the ball, touch the ball with your foot, pick up the ball. The person picking up the ball is not an Acting Half and may score.

The referee will be the sole arbiter of the rules on the pitch and his decision will not, at any stage, be overturned even if manifestly wrong.

4. Forfeit

Minimum of four (4) registered players of that team on the pitch to avoid forfeit. Teams are allowed to borrow other players ONLY with the consent of the other captain and the administrator.
If a scheduled game does not start 5mins after stated kick off time, the team causing the delay will forfeit the match.
