It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of our wonderful PR and Media Coordinator Dr. Heather Long Vandevoorde on Thursday, 30th of August in the arms of her loving husband Gilles surrounded by her two daughters Jania and Lolita. Heather has been a phenomenal support to our club and worked hard in the background to give us greater media and social media exposure. Both girls are playing with our U15G, where Gilles is also coaching. Our thoughts are with Gilles, Jania and Lolita at this time.

    Dear members,

We are delighted to open our membership for this current season 2018/19 for our Junior and Senior teams. Training for the juniors starts on Thursday 13 th September. You will see that we have a new membership system where you can now pay directly online and which will make communication between age groups and teams easier. The committee would like to thank the efforts of David Jacobs, parent to Reuben (U12’s) and Jasper (U9’s), for working with Cara, our membership secretary, on this project.

The committee have worked hard to keep our membership fees as low as possible this season whilst being able to cover costs necessary to run such a high quality and volunteer-led rugby club. Unfortunately due to the implementation of VAT, reduced sponsorship and costs of the various leagues (both Junior & Senior) managed by an outside provider (UAE Expat Rugby) you will notice a slight increase on last season.

We did look at alternative venues to try and keep membership fees down however the standard of the facilities, infrastructure, safety and quality of the venues were nowhere near those available at Zayed Sports City. It would also have meant splitting up age groups with several training days along with our seniors and juniors at different venues. We did a review with a number of existing members who voted unanimously to pay an

increased fee to remain at ZSC and keep our ONE CLUB ethos.

We thank you for your support and understanding and wish everyone a successful season.

    Regards,

    Abu Dhabi Harlequins Committee
